Taking over the former Yo Sushi site just a stone’s throw away from Canterbury Cathedral, the new eatery is expected to open its doors in January next year.

Business owner Aaron Murrell told KentOnline he felt the idea would attract everyone from tourists to students and locals.

“Canterbury suits the brand,” said Mr Murrell.

“Our restaurant is not just about the sports showing live on many screens – it's about the atmosphere and vibe and most importantly the food.

“The owners of the franchise are down to earth and have shown a true love for the brand from the early talking stages. We are thrilled to have them as partners as our brand grows rapidly.

"We are not called Wing Kingz for no reason that’s for sure. In all honesty, the food is incredible – a great mix of wings, burgers and plenty of other exciting dishes and promotions.

“Customers can be assured to receive good food, an even better experience and enjoy live sports whilst dining with us.

“It’s a niche concept that hasn’t really been done in the UK but is very popular in the USA.”

Boasting four different types of wings – vegan, boneless, grilled and buttermilk – there are 10 different flavours and five size options alongside 12 dipping sauces.

For those not a fan of wings, menu highlights include burgers, wraps, nachos and sundaes.

Meanwhile, promotions include Wing Wednesday, all-you-can-eat wings on Wednesdays, and the ‘Earn your Wings’ challenge – a hot wing challenge so spicy it comes with a waiver.

Should licensing permission be granted by Canterbury City Council, the firm is aiming to be open between 10am and midnight seven days a week.

Born in Milton Keynes in 2021, this will be the restaurant’s first venture outside of its home city.

Fans of Wing Kingz include Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney and former Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli.

It is hoped some of these famous faces – which also include former Man City player Mario Balotelli and Watford striker Troy Deeney – could make an appearance at the grand opening, though Aaron remained tight-lipped.

Speaking about who might attend the unveiling, he said: “This is a top secret. I'm sure you will be seeing some familiar faces – but, most importantly, key people of the community of Canterbury.”

The arrival of Wing Kingz comes within months of the grand opening of Matches Sports and Social Bar in Butchery Lane.

Confirmed in August, the new establishment hopes to open this autumn and will be within yards of its new competitor.
