Flan-flinging will turn 50 this year.

The World Custard Pie Championships, which were started in Coxheath near Maidstone, will be held for the 50th time this summer, on Saturday, June 3.

The championships were originally founded in 1967 and have been held at a number of venues, but returned to their original venue a few years ago.

Organisers - which include founder Mike FitzGerald - want to make the 50th anniversary an extra special event.

They want to get competitors from championships through the years to return to do battle again, and share their memories of past battles.

They also hope some will attend this year as special guests to watch, or if they're game, to take part again.

Teams of four battle it out with their opposing team and must throw left handed. Points are scored depending on which part of their opponents' any pies hit.

The pies are made using a special secret recipe, originally concocted by Mr Pastry, a children's entertainer from Maidstone in the 60s.

The contest has attracted worldwide attention over the years, including a Japanese film crew, who entered a team and won in 2015, but were beaten last year by Three Men and a Pie in the semi finals last year.
