Firefighters were called to a house in Laurel Road, Tunbridge Wells , yesterday afternoon.
The blaze started in the kitchen at around 2.30pm and firemen stayed on scene until 4pm.
They used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the fire and afterwards used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke away.
Following this incident, Kent Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to remember the standard safety advice: avoid storing or placing household items on your cooker or stove, keep your cooker, grill, and oven clean to avoid a build-up of grease and fat that could start a fire and keep children and pets well away from your cooking area.
