Tonbridge Juddians 20 Guernsey 10: National League 2 East match report

Tonbridge Juddians got back to winning ways with a 20-10 National League 2 East win over Guernsey on Saturday.

Judds failed to get out of first gear in their defeat to Old Albanians last time out, and although Guernsey pressure tested the hosts early on they held firm before Tom White kicked them ahead with a penalty.

Guernsey hit back with the first try of the afternoon, but were reduced to 14 men after a yellow card and Judds' Hugo Watson powered through several tackles to touch down.

Three minutes later Tonbridge repeated the feat, Duncan Tout following suit in the centre with a powerful run to make it 13-5. However the referee overruled his flaggers to record the conversion as a miss.

After the break the hosts' Joe Duffy was carded and Guernsey took advantage to go over for their second try, but that was as good as it got for them - even when Juddians' Truman Sullivan was sin-binned just after the hour.

Instead, TJs upped the ante and as Guernsey felt the squeeze on their own line they conceded a penalty try just before the final whistle.

Tonbridge, who are now seventh in the standings, return to league action on October 15 at Henley.
