A256 Westwood Road remains closed due to burst water main

The A256 in Broadstairs is still partially closed after a water main burst yesterday.

Southern Water engineers are dealing with the situation after fire crews worked to pump water from two homes in Rumsfield Road yesterday.

Crews were also sent to clear water from the flooded A256 Westwood Road, near the Westwood Cross shopping centre.

KCC has changed its traffic management system, which has reportedly made small improvements to congestion.

Drivers are being warned to avoid the area while the road is made safe.

Southern Water, which said the road would continue to be closed while a pipe is cut out and replaced, has apologised to customers on social media.

Meanwhile, people living in Millmead Road, Margate, were also without water this morning after another main burst.

Southern Water warned that its engineers could not fix that leak until they had finished at Westwood Road.

It tweeted: "We're very sorry for the disruption that's been caused over this weekend.

"We'd like to thank our customers in Thanet for being so patient."
