Nick Davis is ready to hand much-travelled midfielder Antonio Gonnella a chance at Sittingbourne.

Gonnella, whose former clubs include Fisher, Hastings, Maidstone, Margate and Dulwich Hamlet, is set to join Brickies at pre-season training which starts on June 27.

Boss Davis said: “He’s up for it. We played together nearly 10 years ago at Fisher in Conference South, when he was only 16.

“He’s been at some good clubs but he’s never settled.

“He said he’d chased the pound note in the past but tells me he’s a changed man.

“He’s only 26 which is surprising because he seems to have been around for ever. It’s a no-brainer to get him along.

“He can play in a number of positions and while he doesn’t have loads of pace, he just seems to drift past people.

“He might just be the one. He has a fantastic contacts base, too, judging by some of the players he’s shouting about bringing down with him.”
