Shop window prank

By Hayley Robinson

Pranksters have brought a bit of humour to the town centre by displaying spoof items for sale in an empty shop window.

A silver ball described as "David Beckham's first ever football", a wooden chair "once sat on by Nelson Mandela" and two paper planes placed next to a sign which reads "EX-RAF, built in Britain, new design" have been placed on a display unit inside the former Peter Newman store in Sittingbourne High Street.

It was thought the items had been put on display as part of a competition run by Swale council to brighten up the High Street's empty shops but a council spokesman said this was not the case.

BDO LLP the company appointed as administrator of Peter Newman when it folded said it knew nothing of the "sale".
