One man arrested after vans targeted on Australian estate in Sittingbourne

One man has been arrested following a series of incidents in which vehicles were tampered with on an estate in Sittingbourne.

Several residents spotted three young men acting suspiciously, shining the lights from their mobile phones into the backs of vans, and when they appeared to try to break into one van, the resident reported the registration of their vehicle to the police.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 3.15am on Friday after three men were reported to be tampering with vehicles in Connaught Road, Sittingbourne.

"Officers attended and located a car they believed to be linked to the incident, which was pursued before being abandoned in the Blackheath area of south-east London.

"One man was arrested at the scene and taken into custody."

David Peters, 30, of Dray Gardens, Brixton, has been charged with dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, theft from a motor vehicle, and handling stolen goods.
