A farm shop that has struggled due to roadworks has received a highly commended award in the “Rural Oscars”.

MB Farms in Stockbury, which is home to livestock, a butchery, farm shop and post office, has seen trade “halved” due to the A249 flyover works.

But despite business being “tough” it was recognised in the 2024 Countryside Alliance Awards - dubbed the “Rural Oscars” in the best village shop and post office category.

Fittleworth Village Stores in West Sussex won the overall award.

The shop in Stockbury has been trading for more than 25 years and the Brown family has farmed in the village for generations.

Owner Mick Brown thanked customers for their continued support and votes during the competition.

He said: “We are all really pleased with how far we got in the awards.

“Of course, we are a bit disappointed to come second but we can’t thank our customers enough for taking the time to vote for us.

“We have struggled during the roadworks so to be recognised by our customers is amazing.”
