Man bailed over hit-run tragedy

KENT Police have released on bail a 23-year-old man they were questioning in connection with a fatal hit-and-run.

A 26-year-old male pedestrian was killed in Marine Parade, Sheerness, at about 3.10am on Sunday. He has not yet been named by police but was from the Sittingbourne area.

Police said a white Ford Transit van failed to stop at the scene. The 23-year-old, from Minster, near Sheerness, was arrested at his home and questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on Sunday before being bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the tragedy to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
