Lydd Town manager Scott Porter ready to put Southern Counties East promotion plan into action after three-hour meeting

It’s all systems go for Lydd Town boss Scott Porter after a three-hour meeting with the club.

Porter held extensive talks over his plans for next season having identified a number of areas for improvement if the Lydders are to challenge for promotion.

They missed out on the Southern Counties East play-offs this term, finishing 10th, and Porter has made no secret of his view that things need to be done differently.

The meeting with de facto chairman Ryan Smith went well, with Porter, who took charge in January, ready to put his plan into action.

“It was all positive,” said Porter. “We went over what needed to be put right to push for the play-offs from day one.

“Coming in when I did, there wasn’t too much I could change but it gave me time to analyse what was needed.

“I put all that into the conversation and it was a long conversation - a three-hour meeting.

“I identified where we need to be better, player-wise, organisation and basically running the football club as a SCEFL team and dealing with the way the SCEFL is.

“We’ve got to get to grips with how to play in that league – we need a Plan A and a Plan B.

“The players who’ve come down from the Isthmian Prem, it was a big eye-opener for them.

“We need to start afresh and have a tough pre-season and a well-organised pre-season.

“We’ve got to get the right recruitment for how I want to play and we need to be well-run, on and off the pitch.

“That’s what me and the chairman agreed.

“Everything’s got to be done properly.

“I’ve got to bring a few in, everyone knows that, and the players need to be fitter and more streetwise in this league.

“I’ve got no problem with the chairman chucking names at me, because everyone’s got different contacts, but the bottom line is I’m the one signing the players and making the final decisions.

“I need to get the right personnel and we need to hit the ground running.”
