Eurostar train creates new speed record

A EUROSTAR train has gone into the record books after breaking the 200mph speed barrier.

The 14-carriage, 600 ton passenger train set off from Ashford this morning and broke the 200mph mark just past Rochester at Nashenden Valley, Borstal.

The train was driven by Alan Pears from Staplehurst, near Maidstone.

The previous record, set in 1979 by a British Rail Advanced Passenger Train was 162mph.
