Twenty nine teams, each of eight people, competed for the KM Big Charity Quiz trophy with Supernova defeating Medway Mail and Females by just two points.

The top four teams will all go through to the county final taking on highest placed teams from the Medway, Canterbury and Ashford heats of the charity event.

As well as educational initiatives supporting primary schools in Maidstone with literacy, road safety and walk to school schemes, a slice of the proceeds will go toward Dandelion Time, the Kent Messenger’s charity of the year.

Question master for the event, Simon Dolby, praised a clutch of businesses for their backing and support of the event including Barclays bank, Shepherd Neame, Day, Smith Hunter accountants, Qube Recruitment, McDonalds, Maidstone Leisure Centre, Independent Music Productions, Eurostar and MHA MacIntyre Hudson.

Mr Dolby said: “All of our event partners were absolutely brilliant, but I particularly want to thank Shepherd Neame and Barclays. Volunteers from Barclays branches in Maidstone and Medway manned the Spitfire Charity Bar at the event which had all its beverages donated by Sheps. Barclays then matched the cash raised on the night to enable us to generate a fantastic amount for good causes.”
