The writer and journalist, from Doddington Place in Faversham, wrote 20th Century Castles in Britain and will present a signed copy for the library of the school she is to visit.

Schools using the reading reward scheme Buster’s Book Club or the walk to school initiative Super Wow, both operated by the educational charity the KM Charity Team, will work extra hard in a special challenge staged on Wednesday, May 8. The class top or most improved with their figures will win a story time session with Mrs de Moubray, who is passionate about helping to boost the reading levels of children in the county.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of KM Charity Team, said: “I am delighted Amicia de Moubray will be one of our VIP storytellers this year. Encouraging children to read for pleasure is a great way to boost vocabulary and their confidence with reading. Being able to add such a fantastic book about castles into the library will definitely excite boys in the winning school.”

Mrs de Moubray writes for the online publication Faversham Life and is a trustee of The Sheerness Dockyard Preservation Trust, the Queenborough Fishery Trust, and the Assembly Rooms, Faversham.

She lives at Doddington Place, whose gardens are open to the public, with her husband Richard and son. Doddington Place has been in the family for more than a century and its beautiful Edwardian gardens are open to the public.

Organisations supporting the KM Charity Team’s green travel and literacy work with schools include Whites Transport, Ashford International Hotel, Volker Highways, Countrystyle Recycling, Eurostar, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Whitefriars, Gatwick Airport, The Ernest Cook Trust, Little Cheyne Court, Kent Community Foundation, Golding Vision, Orbit South, Specsavers, Leeds Castle, Rotary, Acorns Read and Grow, Crown Foundation, The Gibbons Trust, and the Kent, Medway, Maidstone, Ashford and Bexley councils.

The charity’s KM Walk to School campaign includes Super Wow (Walk on Wednesday) and Green Footsteps. Both schemes, along with Buster’s Book Club, work by motivating whole classes to achieve together. Each week, they compete for the Class of the Week Trophy for reading or green travel. Prizes for monthly inter-school challenges have included tickets to leisure attractions, storyteller sessions, theatre workshops, and falconry experiences.
