Gillingham have decided against making a trip to the French resort of Le Touquet.

A week in France was expected, along with a game against recently promoted Amiens, but neither will now happen, a decision made by boss Ady Pennock.

The Gills will still be heading to Northern Ireland, however, as they look to get in shape for the new season.

Gillingham will be facing a week of hard graft when they travel to the town of Newcastle, with three sessions a day planned for the players.

A game against Faversham Town will kick off their summer pre-season schedule, taking place on Friday, July 7.

Tickets for the game against Chatham Town (July 18) are already on sale, with the Southern Counties East side encouraging fans to purchase them early online. Click here for an external link.

Gillingham will be facing Chatham to mark the opening of their new floodlights, which are currently being installed.

Players will report back to Priestfield next Friday (June 23) and head to Northern Ireland two days later.

With the Amiens game off, the Gills have added games against Dartford and Patro Eisden Maasmechelen to their schedule.

Belgian side Patro faced the Gills in a friendly back in February, with Pennock's men winning the game 3-1.

The league season gets underway on Saturday, August 7. Fixtures will be released on Wednesday and before that the Gills will find out their opponents in the Carabao Cup on Friday.
