Gillingham winger Jermaine McGlashan is ready to play a part in League 1 promotion bid

Jermaine McGlashan is ready to be part of Gillingham’s promotion push.

The winger has seen little action this season but he came off the bench at half-time on Saturday to help grind out a goalless draw at Scunthorpe.

And he’s ready to put his frustrations behind him in a bid to help the Gills reach the Championship.

He said: “I have not featured near enough as much as I would have wanted but as a professional you have to be ready.

“We have been in the top four all season so the manager hasn’t needed to change it as much. But he knows what I can offer and, as tough as it may be, you still need to be ready when called upon.

“It’s the business end and if it means me being called late on, then I am more than ready if needed.

“I like to think I came in and showed that I am still there if needed last weekend.

“I was always going to be a bit rusty as I have been short of games and match fitness but I was pretty happy with how I did. To come on as wing-back was a tough position to come in and play.”

McGlashan, 27, has made just seven starts this season after struggling to fit into the manager’s diamond midfield set-up.
