Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh is hoping for TV coverage of their Stevenage FA Cup game

Justin Edinburgh believes their FA Cup draw with Stevenage has television-appeal.

The TV picks are set to be announced imminently following Monday night’s first round draw.

League 2 Stevenage are managed by another former Spurs player Teddy Sheringham, who was Edinburgh’s team-mate at White Hart Lane.

Both players have won the competition, with Gills boss Edinburgh claiming an FA Cup winner’s medal in 1991 as Terry Venables’ Spurs beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 in extra-time.

It’s a game that Edinburgh will generate plenty of interest.

He said: “We’re old team-mates, we’ve both won the competition and so I guess they might think about putting it on the television.

“It would be good and I am sure it would have big interest, but that’s just my opinion.”

Gillingham have already beaten League 2 teams Plymouth and Luton in cup competitions this season.

The League 1 leaders face a Stevenage team sitting at the wrong end of the Football League’s basement division.

Edinburgh, looking ahead to the game, said: “I am sure we will take good numbers there and it’s against one of my former team-mates so it should get good coverage. We will look forward to it.

“It will be a tough one but in terms of distance to travel the draw has been kind to us.

“I have spoken to Teddy a few times. I see him and we still cross paths and play for the Spurs vets team. He has asked my opinion on a few players and it will be an interesting game and I look forward to seeing him.”

Both the BBC and BT Sport will be showing live first round games.
