Firefighters called out after youths start bonfires in field at Lodge Hill Lane, Chattenden two nights in a row

Firefighters have been called out two nights in a row after youths started bonfires in the same field.

A crew from Strood station tackled the blazes in a field on Lodge Hill Lane, Chattenden last night and Wednesday night. Both incidents took place around 7.30pm.

A spokesman from the station said: "Youths had set a fire in the middle of the field. They'd cut bits of trees to build a bonfire. There were also mattresses in the fire."

He said the fire last night was unattended when they arrived but they could see young people in the distance.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 7.20pm yesterday to reports of a group of young people at a bonfire. We attended to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service in dealing with the situation and dispersed the group."
