Coronavirus Kent: TV presenter Ben Shephard and Holby City star David Ames give thanks to Medway Maritime Hospital staff

Two television stars have become the latest to thank staff at a hospital.

TV presenter Ben Shephard and Holby City actor David Ames recorded special messages for medical staff in Medway.

Mr Shephard, who presents Tipping Point, said: "I just wanted to send a message to Matron Jane and all of the critical care team at Medway Hospital in Kent to say thank you for everything you are doing at the moment.

"I have family members who are being treated for Coronavirus in Kent at the moment so this is a very personal thank you from me because I know that the care is second-to-none.

"You are putting your lives on the line for us and we can never say 'Thank you' enough and nothing we can do can every re-pay the debt we have but just know that you are wonderful, you are superheroes, and we will get through this because of all the hard work you guys are putting in so thank you.

David Ames, who plays Dominic Copeland in BBC medical drama Holby City, said: "I just wanted to say how incredible you guys all are, it's really moving to see all the actual stories from people your side of the line – I just pretend to do this stuff – and it's so humbling and awe-inspiring what you are doing and I just hope you know quite how moved we all are, how proud we all are."

Both messages were organised by Medway Councillor Dan McDonald and were addressed to Critical Care Matron Jane Cox.

This isn't the first time stars of the small screen have thanks staff in Medway; last week, Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure addressed those working at the Medway NHS Foundation Trust which runs the hospital.
