Kent Police headquarters evacuated after suspicious package received

Part of the Kent Police headquarters was evacuated after a suspicious package was received.

Several buildings at the site on Sutton Road, Maidstone, were cleared of staff at about 10am yesterday.

Bomb disposal experts from the Ministry of Defence were sent in to assess the item.

The package was found to be safe and staff were allowed to return to their offices shortly before 1pm.

Police are investigating the incident.
