Police caught several drivers speeding in an operation in Teston, Sutton Valence and Nettlestead this week

A series of drivers were caught speeding in an enforcement operation by police in the Maidstone area.

Four of Kent Police’s new PCs who have just finished their initial training took part in speed checks as part of national Road Safety Week on Tuesday.

Under the guidance of their tutors, they dealt with six cars on the A274 in Sutton Valence, two on the B2015 in Nettlestead and the A26 in Teston. Each was found to be travelling more in excess of 40 miles per hour in a 30mph zone.

The locations were chosen in response to concerns from people living in the area and further speed enforcement will be held in those areas.

Each of the drivers was issued with an offence report, and the circumstances of their driving will be assessed before it is decided how to dealt with it.

Three drivers will also have to produce their driving documents as they did not have them when they were stopped.

PC Martin Zerfahs said: "These new constables have only been with us a short time, but are already making a valuable impact in terms of dealing with offences that are often raised as community issues, such as speeding. This will serve them well when they leave the training unit and join our neighbourhood teams. As the roads become wetter and icy during the winter months it is more important than ever that drivers maintain the correct speed for their safety, and the safety of others."
