Park Wood, Maidstone: man sentenced after attempted cash theft

A man has been handed a prison sentence after stealing cash and assaulting a woman at a Maidstone shop.

Douglas Frankham tried to grab an unknown amount of money from the till of McColl's in Park Wood on Wednesday afternoon.

The 28-year-old, from Cheshire Road, also shoved a member of the public at the Parkwood Parade store after she stopped him taking the money.

Police were called to the scene at 4.30pm and arrested Frankham

Appearing at Maidstone Magistrates' Court yesterday, Frankham pleaded guilty to charges of theft, assault and breaching a conditional discharge.

A second charge of stealing a bottle of cider, two indian meals and a loaf of bread was withdrawn.

He was handed a 120 day suspended sentence, suspended for one year, and was ordered to attend 60 activity sessions, undergo six months of alcohol treatment.

Frankham will also have to pay an £80 victim surcharge and court costs of £85.
