Firefighters called to roof fire at flats in Eden Road in Langley, Maidstone

Ten fire engines were called to the scene of a roof fire.

Firefighters responded to reports of a roof fire at flats in Eden Road, in Langley, Maidstone, which is reported to have started at 2.30pm.

A bulk water carrier and a height vehicle were at the scene.

There was crew from the technical rescue unit and members of KFRS' volunteer response team were in attendance.

Nearby residents were advised to close windows and doors due to smoke coming from the fire.

One block of flats was evacuated, including 12 residents who needed alternative accommodation.

Kent Police evacuated a second block as a precaution, and duty of care was left with the site management.

At least 50 fire personnel attended, including firefighters and officers.

Firefighters maintained a watching brief overnight at the scene of the flat fire and searched for any remaining hot spots.

The fire is now out and the cause is not yet known.
