PAUL SCALLY has chosen his next Gillingham manager - and is thrashing out an agreement that will release the candidate from his current club.

The Gills chairman revealed to our radio station kmfm on Tuesday morning that he is at an "advanced stage" of discussions with the man he hopes will succeed Ronnie Jepson, who resigned from his post in early September.

The man in question is currently at another club, but wants to come to Gillingham, Mr Scally said.

He added he is currently drawing up an agreement with the candidate's club to secure his release to Priestfield.

Mr Scally said: "In the last three or four weeks I have talked to a lot of high quality candidates.

"There is one particular person I have highlighted who will make a huge difference to the structure of the club.

"It is now at an advanced stage. I am speaking to this particular person, and he wants to come to Gillingham Football Club.

"He is at another club, and I have spoken to his chairman.

"We are now in the process of coming to some sort of agreement.

"But at this stage it isn't right and proper to name names."

Mr Scally added: "The next appointment is absolutely critical. Gillingham is on the up. Restructuring has been agreed, business is going well, our income is improving all the time.

"All that's wrong are the results on the pitch."
