Ebbsfleet United 1 Weymouth 0

George Purcell’s first half strike was enough to give Ebbsfleet United all three points at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

The winger lashed in a right-footed effort into the roof of the net on 23 minutes after good work from Danny Slatter.

The Fleet pushed on for a second killer goal, but Weymouth stood firm in the face of continued pressure.

The result lifts Liam Daish’s side into the top half of the Blue Square Premier table to twelfth.

It wasn’t quite the happy return that former Fleet midfielder and Wembley goal hero Chris McPhee hoped for. McPhee lined up for the visitors, who are currently experiencing financial problems both on and off the field. The Weymouth supporters club even had to pay for a coach to take the team to the game.

Ebbsfleet: Cronin, Slatter, Pooley, Charles (Ricketts 78 mins), Opinel, Purcell, Hand, Barrett (Stone 83 mins), Long, Moore, Gash

Subs not used: French (GK), Shakes, Ibe
