LEGENDARY Gillingham striker Tony Cascarino, the former Republic of Ireland international, will help launch the Gillingham Supporters Trust on Thursday.

Cascarino, who is a best-selling author, will be at the Lloyds Sports and Social Club in Featherby Road, Gillingham, at 7.45pm to meet old and new Gills fans alike at the birth of the Trust.

Trust acting chairman and lifelong Gills fans Nigel Holland said: “Tony is looking forward to renewing old acquaintances. All Gillingham supporters will be most welcome because we shall be explaining how the Trust will function. There will be a question and answer session during fans will have the chance to air their opinions."

One thorny issue the Trust must deal with is the question of shares in the club which is certain to be raised on Thursday.

Gillingham club chairman Paul Scally has already suggested that raising £1.5 million for a new Town End Stand would be a worthwhile project.

In his programme notes of November 16, he wrote: “Despite some reservations about the potential value of the Trust and the intention of some of its backers, I have no doubt about the integrity of its acting chairman Nigel Holland and his honest desire to make it work.

"Time will tell if there is enough interest in the idea of a Supporters Trust so it can make a worthwhile contribution to the club.”
