Ambrose out to break Man U jinx

AMBROSE: impressive record against United
AMBROSE: impressive record against United

Charlton Ath v Man United

CHARLTON midfielder Darren Ambrose, who last season won the club's goal-of-the-season award for his spectacular strike in the 3-1 defeat by Manchester United at The Valley in November, wants to go one better tonight and beat them.

The Addicks have never beaten United in the Premier League and Ambrose believes it is high time the club broke the jinx.

He said: "I like playing against Manchester United. I scored against them last season and when I was at Newcastle scored at Old Trafford.

"They do give you a lot of space to play. They’re a footballing side and not one that will try and battle you off the pitch."

He admitted: "With Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes suspended that's good news for us. But then they'll have another two top class players to come in.

"But you cannot go into a game against United being fearful. If you don't go out there believing you're going to win, then there's no point in going out.

"They scored four goals in 19 minutes against Fulham at the weekend so it's important that we start well."

With Djimi Traore ruled out of his home debut by a one-match suspension following Saturday's dismissal at West Ham, Hermann Hreidarsson looks certain to switch from central defence to left-back.

Tonight's match will be Christiano Ronaldo's first on an away ground since his controversial World Cup and United have hired two security guards to accompany him to the match.
