Youths hunted after blaze destroys bungalow

DETECTIVES have launched an arson probe after a fire tore through a bungalow in Hartley, near Gravesend.

Police are now searching for four male youths in their late teens who were seen acting suspiciously around the detached property off Gorse Wood Road.

It is understood the boarded-up bungalow had been empty for some time following the owner's death and, according to residents, it had become a magnet for vandals.

The blaze, which destroyed 75 per cent of the property, shattered windows and burnt away most of the roof leaving just charred wooden beams.

Sgt Rod Chapman, of North Kent Police, added: "It was a very serious offence which caused tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage. We want to trace these youths as soon as possible."

Anyone with information on the fire, should call police on 01322 283111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
