Manager Mark Stimson may not be flavour of the month with Gillingham’s fans, but that didn’t stop him praising those who followed the team to Brentford on Saturday in great numbers.

The fact the journey was one of the shortest of the season made a difference, but Stimson said: "The support from the warm-up onwards was absolutely fantastic like it was last year.

"I said to the players before the game that to have that many people still chanting and wanting us to do well, after what we have done away from home this season deserved something back, and didn’t get it."

Gillingham lost the game 4-0, but Stimson added: "My message to them against Tranmere is come along, expect us to be on the front foot, get behind the team as much as possible, and express their feelings in the right and positive way."
