Vessel rescued in bad weather

A stricken yacht had to be rescued by a lifeboat, after it started drifting in harsh weather.

The 34-foot vessel, the Katrina, made the call to the Sheerness lifeboat after coming into trouble 10 miles off the coast of Whitstable.

After suffering engine failure and its anchor breaking, rescuers were called out to what the coastguard described as "very nasty sea conditions" at 12.23am.

It took until about 5am to tow the two people on board to safety.
