ONE of the year's biggest water sports events powers into Kent this weekend.

The Offshore Powerboat and Waterski Grand Prix takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Ramsgate's Royal Harbour Marina.

It is the first time that water-skiing has been included in the event, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday.

2006 world champion waterskier Kim Lumley will be amongst an expected 20 ski boats taking to the water. Men's European F1 silver medalist Karl Brooks will also be competing.

Cllr Roger Latchford, KCC cabinet member for culture and economy, said: "There's plenty for spectators to see on the water during the course of the weekend.

"Ramsgate already has a reputation amongst the powerboat racers as being one of the top locations in the country and it also rightly has a reputation as one of the best places to watch the racing.

"This year, spectators will also be able to enjoy the exciting sight of water-skiing just outside the beautiful Royal Harbour Marina."

The event starts at 10am on both days, finishing at 11pm on Saturday and at 6pm on Sunday.
