Three-day county show gets under way

LIGHT rain threatened to deter some people from attending the Kent County Show which began today at Detling, near Maidstone.

An historical pageant will be one of the main attractions at the three-day event. The specially commissioned pageant, with dancers and actors, will spotlight some of the dramatic events involving past Kings and Queens of England in a light-hearted, but factually and accurate way.

Another top attraction will be the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas, the famous soldiers from Nepal who have a long association with the British army.

Other highlights will include Ye Olde Redtail Falconry Display, the HM Prison Working Dogs, the first ever heats of the 'Granite Arm' British armwrestling championships and the Dog Agility Display Team.

Frances Day, chief executive of the Kent County Agricultural Society, said: “We are looking forward to providing three days of excellent family fun.”
