A MAN accused of a hammer attack on a soldier has appeared in court today.

Aaron Campbell, 24, of Madden Avenue, Davis Estate, Chatham, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court accused of attempting to murder 22-year-old Lee Harris in the early hours of June 5 in Madden Avenue.

He appeared via a TV link from Elmley Prison, Sheppey, where he is in custody, and only spoke when identified by the court clerk.

Mr Harris, who is based at Brompton Barracks, had life-threatening injuries but police said that he was now making a good recovery in a London hospital.

Judge Jeremy Carey remanded Campbell in custody until August 9, when he is expected to enter a plea to the charge.
