Police seek key witness to Chatham assault

Police are asking for a good samaritan to contact them following an assault which took place in Chatham.

At around 3.15pm last Wednesday an 11 year old boy was walking home from school when he was assaulted by a male on Salisbury Road, Chatham. The boy was uninjured in the incident.

A passer-by intervened to assist the boy who proceeded to run home.

Det Sgt Terry Easterby said: "Firstly we would like to thank the member of public who stepped in to help a young boy in trouble.

"This man may be able to provide a description of the offender or help us piece together events surrounding the incident so we ask that he contacts us as a matter of urgency.

"We would also like to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed the assault or has information which could assist with our investigation.

The attacker is described as a white man, approximately 6ft 1in tall, in his late twenties, with black hair and a distinctive black fringe, wearing blue jeans and a blue and black hoodie.

Police are also keen to stress that incidents of this nature are extremely uncommon and crime levels in the area continue to fall.

Anyone who can help the police with their investigation is asked to contact officers at Medway police station on 01634 792529.
