Two people were taken to hospital following a two-car accident on the A289 Wainscott by-pass this afternoon.

A woman with chest injuries and a man with head injuries are receiving treatment at Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham.

The two were hurt in a two-car accident, which happened shortly after 1pm, a mile and a half from the Four Elms roundabout.

Congestion caused by the accident led to a second collision between a car and a lorry.

The road was closed while debris was cleared and to allow recovery teams to remove the vehicles. It reopened at 2.40pm.
