Man with ponytail demands Chatham girl's money

A SCHOOLGIRL was threatened by a man who demanded she give him her pocket money as she walked home from school.

The 11-year-old pupil who attends Chatham Grammar School for Girls, was threatened by the middle-aged man, as she made her way home on Wednesday, September 14.

Medway Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the Rainham Road, or Ash Tree Lane areas of Chatham at about 4.30pm.

The girl left her school by a side gate leading into Ash Tree Lane, and the distinctive looking man approached her, demanding she give him her money.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: “The young girl ran away and hid and was not hurt or assaulted during the incident but was understandably very upset.

“The man is white, in his late 40s to early 50s of medium build with long dark blond hair in a ponytail. His hair is also described as greying and brittle.

"He wore a floppy hat with a hole in the trim, has pale skin, full grey beard, large black sunglasses and was wearing a grey vest with a hole in the back, multi-coloured tie-dye shorts and old brown ankle boots.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Medway Police on 01634 884136 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
