Kent are still waiting to confirm youngsters Matt Coles and Alex Blake have agreed contract extensions.

An announcement seemed imminent a couple of weeks ago but there has still been no official comment from the county.

Coles (pictured top right), 20, is still in Australia, while Blake (pictured bottom right), who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Tuesday, resumed his sports science degree at Leeds Metropolitan University earlier this month.

They are both contracted to the end of this summer.

Coles’ Channel Islands-based representative has been handling negotiations in his absence, while Blake’s agent is former Kent captain David Fulton.

Team director Paul Farbrace said: "It’s an ongoing thing and there is constant dialogue.

"There is no pressure but it is our wish to try and get as many of our young players signed up for long periods as soon as possible.

"I don’t blame the players for taking the time to get it right.

"None of the agents are banging the table or being unrealistic, awkward or difficult about what they are talking about but at a time when finances are tight, it’s not that easy to just agree straightaway.

"There is a little bit of to-ing and fro-ing, but that’s no different than in any other walk of life."
