Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler could bring Stefan Payne into his starting line-up at home to Shrewsbury tomorrow (Saturday).

Payne (pictured) impressed as a second-half substitute at Bury last weekend and scored for the reserves in midweek.

Hessenthaler is concerned over the fitness of loan striker Cody McDonald.

The Gills boss confirmed that he will play two up front with three-goal Adeyabo Akinfewa given support in attack.

Hessenthaler said: “There will be a good chance that he is up for selection.

“There’s every chance we will go two down the middle. We took Stefan Payne off at half-time in the reserves as he has a chance of playing.

“He looked bright when he came on at Bury and scored on Wednesday, so he hasn’t done himself any harm.

“Dennis Oli has done great (in the reserves) but this weekend will probably be too soon for him to start.”
