A RANGE of activities from rock bands to careers guidance and circus workshops to sports will be on show at a special event for young people in June.

More than 60 organisations are involved in Celebrating Youth Achievement at the County Showground, Detling, on Saturday, June 16. It promises to be an exciting, activity-filled day of fun, according to the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Allan Willett. And it's free.

The event is part of the Lieutenancy's initiative to highlight the positive work being done by and with young people across the county.

Mr Willett urged youth groups to apply for their free ticket. The event is by ticket only and is not open to the general public.

"We want to inform young people about the many opportunities that are open to them, encourage them to become involved – and call for more adult leaders and helpers to come forward."

Other activities and opportunities on offer include arts workshops, sports coaching and demonstrations, caving and climbing wall tuition, marching bands and games.

The event starts at 11am with a sponsored charity walk giving young people the opportunity to raise money for their groups.

Entry for the walk costs £1.50 for which walkers will receive a medal and a drink. The main event displays and activities will be available from noon to 5pm.
