Aston Martin has confirmed that it will start production of the Cygnet luxury city car in 2011.

The compact model, based on the Toyota IQ, was originally unveiled as a concept in March 2010 and is a change in direction for the high performance vehicle manufacturer, and one that will help drive down the average CO2 emissions of its range to meet strict EU regulations.

Aston Martin has announced that the model will be built at its Gaydon headquarters alongside the DB9 and Vantage models but pricing and specification details have yet to
be announced.
