Betteshanger Bowls Club duo Arthur and Marc McCaughan have qualified for the national finals of the Father and Son competition after beating Peter Hipkiss from The Angel in the area final at Swale.

The McCaughans won 25-17 to seal their place in the last 32 of England at Northampton. For Arthur, senior qualification is an historic achievement. He has now reached the final stages of the Father and Son with both of his sons, having qualified for the last four seasons with eldest son Shaun.

However, for Marc, disappointment followed in the area final of the mixed fours when, after teaming up with mother Lynne, Pat Jones and Jamie Dunn they were beaten by a quartet from Swale by three shots on the last end.
