Bogus callers steal from pensioner

TWO young men who called at a house claiming to be looking for a lost cat are thought to have taken money from a purse belonging to a 92-year-old woman.

Police say the callers to Grange Road, Ramsgate, went indoors with the woman while her son searched for the animal, even though he had shut the door before going into the garden.

About £10 was taken from a brown leather purse, together with a library card. A shopkeeper later found the purse in Broadstairs, minus the money.

One of the young men is thought to be aged about 17 and 5ft 9in tall. He was wearing a blue top with a zip front and light-coloured trousers. His accomplice is said to be about 20 with short dark hair. He was wearing a blue top and matching trousers.

Anyone who saw the men in Grange Road at about 2.20pm on Tuesday or at The Broadway, Broadstairs, later on in the afternoon, is asked to call PC Sarah Raymonde on 01843 222192.
