EBBSFLEET United top scorer Charlie MacDonald is confident he can make the step up after joining League 1 side Southend.

The 26-year-old scored 27 goals in the Conference last season and is keen to repeat the feat with the Shrimpers after signing a two-year deal.

A number of clubs were interested in MacDonald including newly-promoted Championship club Scunthorpe.

MacDonald said: "I have never doubted my ability to score goals at any level because if I get chances I am always a believer I will be able to finish them off.

"I think the club is set to go straight back up (to the Championship) and I have signed here to win things."

The former Charlton Athletic trainee is delighted to be back in the Football League and was quick to acknowledge the contribution made by Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish.

He said: "The manager and the rest of the staff had a lot of time for me as well as everyone else involved with the club. I'm very grateful for everything they have done for me."
