Free entry to see holders Fleet in Trophy

Supporters will get free entry for Ebbsfleet’s FA Trophy third round clash against Swindon Supermarine on January 31.

Chief executive David Davis is hoping to attract a crowd of more than 3,000 as the holders look to book a place in the last eight.

More than 1,000 MyFootballClub members voted in favour of holding a free game while 283 voted against the idea.

Ebbsfleet’s third lowest gate of the season came against Stalybridge Celtic in the FA Trophy second round, when just 467 supporters watched them win 2-1.

Mr Davis said: “One of the reasons we are doing this is to try and attract some of the people who went to Wembley who haven’t been seen at the club since.

“MyFootballClub also wants to thank the fans. Hopefully it will generate interest and raise the profile of MyFootballClub with renewals coming up on February 19.”

The cost of the free admission match will be covered by MyFootballClub and Davis is hoping the club can make money through increased bar, food and programme sales.

Those attending the match will also have the option to donate an admission fee if they wish.

Dover Athletic had a free admission match against Tooting & Mitcham in December and their gate was more than doubled.

Mr Davis added: “Dover haven’t had a regular home match since then and it will be interesting to see what their normal gate is. I’m hoping that we can get more than 2,000 for the game. If it is over 3,000 then that will be great.”
