Gravesend came off second best after a late surge by Bishop’s Stortford secured the points 21-6 in National League 3 London & South East.

With 70 minutes played the sides were all square at 6-6, Dave Dorton scoring both of the hosts’ penalties, but Stortford were rewarded for being quicker to the breakdown when flanker Richard Gill went over.

There was confusion when the referee initially ruled out the try, believing the ball had not been grounded, but the score was allowed following advice from the touch judge.

The visitors added another five points moments later after Gravesend lost the ball and quick work released one of the flankers and he did the rest.

The home side’s woes were completed when Dorton’s pass was intercepted by centre Nick Harris, who cantered untroubled to the line.
