The Army's bomb squad has detonated a suspicious package which was discovered this morning.
A cordon was set up and nearby buildings evacuated in the Wallis Park area of Northfleet.
A police spokesman says officers were called at 8.22am after the alarm was raised.
Speaking earlier, witness David Carnell, who works nearby, said there were more than 20 police officers present.
Some residents were trapped by the cordon and customers couldn't get to nearby businesses.
At noon, police said the package had been blown up and found to be "non-suspicious".
The cordon has since been lifted.
