Men remanded after police shooting

THREE men have been remanded in custody after an incident at the Nationwide building society in New Romney, near Hythe, on Tuesday in which a 41-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded by armed Metropolitan Police officers.

All the men are charged with robbery. They have also been charged with possessing a firearm while committing an indictable offence.

The three are David Jenkins, 60, of Pantheon Gardens, Ashford, Dean Jenkins, 39, of Wilks Close, Rainham, and Ben Greham, 21, of Vermont Road, Upper Norwood, south east London.

The three men appeared before magistrates in Folkestone on Friday aftenoon. They will appear at Maidstone Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on Friday, November 17.

The man who was fatally wounded has been named as Robert Haines, who lived in the village of Challock, near Ashford. He died in Ashford's William Harvey Hospital on Tuesday night.
