Dover v Canvey

Andy Hessenthaler broke a personal rule about never setting targets when he called on his players to reach 100 points and crown the club’s promotion season.

Dover’s player-manager has studiously avoided setting a date for a promotion party as the club run away with the Ryman League Premier Division title.

But after Whites fell two short of a century last season, he confessed that putting 100 on the board this term would bring immense pride to everyone at Crabble.

With 11 games remaining, Dover have accumulated 80 points.

He said: “During my management career I’ve never been one for setting targets but I’ll admit that winning promotion with 100 points or more would be incredibly satisfying."

Hessenthaler wants his players to respond to Tuesday’s 3-2 Ryman League Cup quarter-final defeat at Billericay in Saturday’s home game against play-off contenders Canvey Island.

Hessenthaler, who made five changes to the side that won 4-1 in the league at Harlow on Saturday, will be without skipper John Keister (hamstring) Matt Fisher (foot) and Jon Wallis (groin) for the game visit.
