Man and woman die in crash horror

AN ELDERLY male driver and his female passenger died following a road accident between Deal and Dover.

Their Nissan car was in collision with a Renault van at the Tilmanstone turn off on the A256 at around 3pm on Friday.

The woman, who was in her 80s and believed to be from the Canterbury area, died at the scene.

Police Insp Ian Deplege said: “An air ambulance took the Nissan driver to the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital at Margate where he died in the early hours of Saturday.”

He added that the van driver was also taken to hospital but was not injured

Fire crews from Deal and Eastry were called to the scene and released the man and woman from the Nissan. The male victim is thought to have lived in the Faversham area.

A fire brigade spokesman said the Ramsgate-bound carriageway was closed for four hours while accident investigation teams inspected the scene.
