Deal Braderie cancelled over coronavirus social distancing restrictions

An outdoor shopping event has been cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Organisers Deal Town Council called off the annual Braderie which was due to be held in Deal High Street in September.

A statement from the authority said: "Councillors felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation.

"We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this popular event, but based on social distancing guidelines and the health and safety of our staff, visitors and stall holders, this is the right decision based on the information we have today."

It comes as a catalogue of events were cancelled across the Dover district including the Marines on the Green concert, the Clifftop Challenge charity run, Deal Regatta Week and carnival, the Dover Community Regatta and the 149th Open golf championship at Royal St George's Golf Club.
